West Valley City, Utah - The Utah Grizzlies (26-16-4-1) defeated the Las Vegas Wranglers (28-13-2-1) 5-0 Wednesday night at Maverik Center in a battle of the two division leaders in the Western Conference.

Andrew Engelage earned his second shutout in the last three games and improved to 16-7-3-1 as he stopped all 40 shots that he saw. Kevin Deeth added three assists and Simon Ferguson had one goal and two assists.

"As a whole, everyone competed, I don't think we had a weak link," said Grizzlies Head Coach Kevin Colley. "We have to take all of these positives and build on them. It's a big win to finish off the home stand and now things get tough going into Stockton." Utah went 3-0-1-0 on the four-game in six-night home stand.

Utah took a 1-0 first period lead as Hugo Carpentier (9) hacked in a power-play goal just 2:59 into the game and the Grizzlies were off. Engelage made 11 big saves in the first period to keep Utah with the lead, then stopped his second shorthanded breakaway of the game less than a minute into the second period.

Utah took a 2-0 lead shorthanded as Kevin Deeth stripped a Las Vegas forward of the puck in the neutral zone 3:56 into the middle frame and fed Tom May who moved in for his ninth goal of the year and extended his Utah season-long scoring streak to eight games. The Grizzlies struck again just 63 seconds later as Max Tanguay fed Tim Crowder on an odd-man rush for his 12th of the year. Brock Wilson started the play by batting the puck out of the air and Giffen Nyren took over in the neutral zone.

Utah made it 4-0 as Brett Parnham knocked in lose puck 11:08 into the second period for his 13th of the year. Ferguson followed just 2:49 later with his 13th of the season as Utah was 13 seconds into a five-on-three power-play.

Utah went two-for-eight on the power-play and eight-for-eight on the penalty-kill.

Utah opens a three-game road stretch Friday and Saturday in Stockton. Face-off each evening is scheduled for 8:30 p.m.

The Grizzlies return home Tuesday, February 15 with Alaska to open a four-game in five-night home stand. Face-off each night is scheduled for 7:05 p.m.
