Utah Grizzlies News Release

West Valley City, Utah - The Utah Grizzlies (31-25-4-2) defeated the Stockton Thunder (31-22-5-5) 3-2 in overtime Sunday afternoon at Maverik Center. The shorthanded Utah group finished the game with just 10 healthy skaters.

"It was a heck of an effort from everyone and it was a real gut check for us," said Grizzlies Head Coach Kevin Colley. "We knew it wasn't going to be easy. In the third period, you could tell, we had nothing left in the tank. We weathered the storm, we didn't give up and wins like this can really bring a team together."

Giffen Nyren moved in uncontested on the Stockton goal 2:46 into overtime and backhanded home the game-winning goal on a feed from Kevin Deeth.

Utah took a 2-0 lead with goals 1:21 apart at 4:58 and 6:19 of the first period. Chris Donovan (7) made it 1-0 as he faked in the right circle and buried the shot as he worked up ice. Brendan Milnamow and Ryley Grantham picked up assists. Brett Parnham hacked in his 16th goal of the year on the power-play with Deeth and Hugo Carpentier picking up assists to make it 2-0.

Utah hung tough in the third period and gave up two goals as Stockton tied.

Tyler Sims improved to 2-1 on the year, by stopping 31 of 33 shots in net for the Grizzlies.

Utah opens a six-game road trip Wednesday in Victoria. Face-off is scheduled for 8:05 p.m.

The Grizzlies return home Wednesday, March 23 to host Las Vegas at 7:05 p.m.
