Las Vegas, Nev- The Las Vegas Wranglers® fell Saturday night to the Ontario Reign in front of 9,952 at Citizens Businesses Bank Arena. Blair Riley had the lone tally for the Wranglers who put up seven goals the previous night in the same building. Jordan Morrison, Kyle Kraemer, and Chaz Johnson tallied the goals for Ontario. Goaltender Jase Weslosky earned his first win in a Reign jersey after spending time in Idaho and Florida this season. He turned away 35 of the 36 shots he faced, improved his overall ECHL record for the season to 8-6-3, and grabbed the first start of the night award. Billy Sauer made his second start in net for the Wranglers this season. He turned away 19 of 22 in the loss dropping his record to 0-1-1 in his time spent in Las Vegas. Neither team was able to take advantage of their identical four power play opportunities Saturday night. With the win Ontario snaps their three-game losing streak and improve their record to 22-35-6 as they hold the fourth spot in the Pacific division. The loss snaps the Wranglers two-game winning streak as they slide to 35-20-5 but still hold the top spot in the Pacific division with 75 total point in sixty games thus far.
After combining for eleven goals on Friday night including two opening periods of back-and-forth goal trading Las Vegas and Ontario did not score until the second period on Saturday and only combined for a more practical four goals. The Wranglers looked like they were going to carry momentum from Friday night's game into Saturday but Ontario countered with a fresh goalie to stir up the contest. Blair Riley notched his seventeenth goal of the season at the 17:32 mark of the second period assists going to Tyler Mosienko and Craig Switzer to give the Wranglers the 1-0 lead. Riley's goal was the lone goal of the first two periods as the Wranglers outshot the Reign 22-14 in the first two periods.
The third period was controlled by the Reign who scored three unanswered goals to close off the game. Jordan Morrison tied the game at one with his sixteenth goal of the season assisted by Chaz Johnson and Pat Bowen at the 7:21 mark of the third period. Kyle Kraemer gave Ontario the lead at 11:33 of the third period with his thirteenth goal of the season assisted by Michael Pelech. Ontario added an unassisted empty-net goal at the 19:17 mark with Chaz Johnson's twentieth goal of the season giving the Reign the 3-2 win.
The Wranglers now head home to host Alaska on March 15th and then Ontario on the 17th for their final regular season match-up. Both games start at 7:05PM PST.
