Alaska Aces News Release
Gerald Coleman made 25 saves, and the Alaska Aces scored two power play goals to complete a three-game sweep of the Victoria Salmon Kings with a 3-1 from Sullivan Arena on Saturday night, and extend their winning streak to five games. Wes Goldie added a late goal to move into sole possession of second place all-time in ECHL goal scoring with 326 league goals. The Aces win, coupled with a Las Vegas loss in Ontario, moved Alaska four points ahead of Las Vegas for first place in the Western Conference. Alaska's record improved to 38-20-4 on the year, and they have earned points in 12 of their last 13 games. The Aces now open up a five-game road trip, including four pivotal games in Las Vegas, beginning Tuesday night. Alaska opened the scoring when Tyler Ruegsegger scored on a one-time from a sharp angle at 3:59 on a set-up from Mark Isherwood. The Aces increased their lead to 2-0 when Scott Howes extended his scoring streak to five games with a goal from just outside the crease off a feed from Wes Goldie. Victoria cut the Aces lead in half when Chad Painchaud converted a breakaway at 16:15 to get the Kings on the board.
Coleman was fantastic down the stretch, and closed the door on several point blank opportunities for Victoria. Goldie ended the game with an empty net goal at 19:38 for his fifth goal and ninth point of the series against his former team.
