Grand Rapids Griffins News Release

Grand Rapids, Mich. - Goaltender Ron Tugnutt, a veteran of 529 games in the National Hockey League, is scheduled to start for the Utah Grizzlies tonight when they visit Van Andel Arena for a 7:30 faceoff against the Grand Rapids Griffins.

Tugnutt, who was assigned to Utah by the Dallas Stars on Wednesday, has played for eight different NHL teams since 1987, posting an overall record of 184-235-62 with 25 shutouts and a 3.06 goals against average. Playing behind Marty Turco, named yesterday as the Western Conference's starting goaltender for the 2004 NHL All-Star Game, Tugnutt has appeared in only five NHL games this season, going 1-3-0 with a 2.57 GAA.

The Griffins lineup that will face Tugnutt has been bolstered by the addition of AHL All-Star forward Jiri Hudler, who was assigned today by the Detroit Red Wings. The Griffins' fourth-leading scorer with 16 points (4-12-16) in only 15 appearances, Hudler has also contributed three points (1-2-3) in 12 games with Detroit this season.

Since his Dec. 9 recall to the Red Wings, Hudler captained the Czech Republic to a fourth-place finish at the IIHF World Junior Championship in Finland, notching two goals, five points, six penalty minutes and a plus-six rating in seven games.

Also today, the Griffins assigned right wing David Brisson to their United Hockey League affiliate, the Muskegon Fury. Brisson, who has four points (3-1-4) in 27 games with Grand Rapids, has played one game with the Fury this season, going scoreless in their 6-4 win over Adirondack on Dec. 30.

The first 3,000 fans tonight will receive a wearable Griffins goalie mask, courtesy of Centennial Securities. Tickets are still available through Tickets PLUS outlets and the Zone, as well as at the door this evening.
