January 9, 2004 - American Hockey League (AHL) News Release
After passing each other on Interstate 10, Hartford and Worcester continue their Texas two-steps on Friday night, with the Wolf Pack visiting San Antonio and the IceCats meeting Houston (7:00 CT, 8:00 ET). On Thursday, both New England clubs met former teammates in goal: Hartford escaped with a 1-0 overtime win over Johan Holmqvist and the Aeros, while Travis Scott and the Rampage got the better of Worcester in a 3-2 OT decision. Thursday's win was Jason LaBarbera's fifth shutout of the year for the Pack, tying him for the AHL lead.
Rochester brings the AHL's best home record (12-4-2-0) into a pair of games with Manitoba, Friday (7:35 ET, 6:35 CT) and Sunday (6:05/5:05). The Amerks enter the weekend in second place in the North Division, but just five points ahead of the sixth-place Moose, who are 0-1-1 to start their eight-game road trip. The clubs split a pair of meetings in Winnipeg last month, and this marks Manitoba's first-ever visit to the historic Rochester War Memorial. Domenic Pittis is on a five-game scoring streak for the Amerks (3g, 7a); Justin Morrison has a point in eight of nine for the Moose (6g, 4a).
Elsewhere this weekend: Portland puts its nine-game unbeaten streak on the line with home games against Manchester on Friday (7:05 ET) and Wilkes-Barre/Scranton on Saturday (7:05)... Philadelphia heads to Binghamton on Saturday night (7:05 ET) in the teams' first meeting since combining for 373 minutes in penalties on Dec. 28... Syracuse, 10-3-4-1 on home ice this season, hosts Hershey on Friday (7:30 ET) and arch-rival Rochester on Saturday (7:30)... Bridgeport heads south for games in Norfolk on Saturday (7:30 ET) and Sunday (4:00)... Winners of five straight at home, Chicago hosts Cincinnati on Saturday (7:00 CT, 8:00 ET) and Sunday (3:00/4:00)... Cleveland hits the road to face a pair of division leaders in Hamilton on Friday (7:00 ET) and Grand Rapids on Saturday (7:30).
