Griffins' MacDonald denies Ducks for first career AHL shutout

GRAND RAPIDS, MI - Joey MacDonald made 33 saves for his first shutout of the season of the season, as the Grand Rapids Griffins blanked the Cincinnati Mighty Ducks, 3-0, Friday at Van Andel Arena.

Stacy Roest, Michel Picard and Mark Mowers scored 2:06 apart in the first period for Grand Rapids, which improved to 5-0-1-0 against Cincinnati this season.

MacDonald made seven saves in the first period, turned aside 15 shots in the second and stopped 11 shots in the third for his second career shutout and first in the AHL.

Ilja Bryzgalov, who replaced Jean-Francois Damphousse 19 minutes into the contest, stopped all 12 shots he faced for Cincinnati, which lost its sixth straight on the road.

The Ducks begin a five-game home stand Saturday at 7:35 p.m. against Chicago at Cincinnati Gardens. NASCAR Winston Cup champion Tony Stewart will drop the first puck and sign autographs for select fans. The first 3,200 fans will receive a Tony Stewart bobblehead. Gates open at 6:00 p.m.
