
Greensboro Tops Power 6-2

(Charleston, WV - June 2, 2015) - The West Virginia Power lost to the Greensboro Grasshoppers 6-2 on Tuesday night at Appalachian Power Park. The loss snapped a four-game win streak and the Power will try to earn a series win on Wednesday afternoon in the homestand finale.
The Hoppers struck first with a pair of runs in the second. Austen Smith doubled and later scored on a wild pitch by Austin Coley. KJ Woods added the second run when he hit a solo home run to right.
Greensboro tallied another run in the fifth inning. After Rodrigo Vigil led off the inning and later found himself at third, he scored on Coley's second wild pitch of the day.
The Power plated a run in the sixth. Connor Joe led off the inning with a double to left and advanced to third when Jordan Luplow reached on an error. Joe scored when Taylor Gushue grounded into a fielder's choice which made the score 3-1. The Power loaded the bases in the inning but failed to drive home any runs.
In the ninth inning, Greensboro tallied three runs off reliever Julio Vivas to expand their lead to four. Arturo Rodriguez came across on a Zach Sullivan sac fly and John Norwood hit an RBI single to plate Vigil. Norwood then stole second and scored on an RBI single from Ryan Aper.
West Virginia scored its final run in thanks to a sacrifice fly by Luplow to score Elvis Escobar. The Power later loaded the bases and brought the tying run to the plate. However, West Virginia failed to tie the game.
Coley (6-4) suffered the loss after he surrendered three runs on seven hits with a walk and six strikeouts over six innings. Ben Holmes (1-4) earned his first career victory with 5.1 innings of one-run ball. Josh Hodges earned the save by working 1.1 innings in relief.
Escobar went 1-for-2 with a pair of walks to extend his hit streak to seven games and his on-base streak to 13.
West Virginia (31-21) concludes the three-game series with Greensboro (22-30) on Wednesday afternoon. RHP Yeudy Garcia (3-3, 2.14) will toe the rubber for the Power and he will be opposed by LHP Michael Mader (3-5, 5.32). First pitch is slated for 12:05 p.m. while pregame on the Power radio network is scheduled for 11:45 a.m.
Wednesday's game is a splash day game with the third base side of the ballpark considered a "wet zone" for the fans in attendance. Gates open for the afternoon game at 11 a.m.
