Greenville Drive News Release
Greenville, SC - Unlike game one of the series between the Greenville Drive (31-21) and the Kannapolis Intimidators (25-27), the outcome of Tuesday's game at Fluor Field was never in doubt, as the Intimidators jumped ahead early and easily picked up a 9-4 win, snapping the Drive's three-game winning streak.
Kannapolis struck for two runs against Drive starter Michael Kopech (2-3) and never looked back. Ryan Leonards reached on an error to begin the inning, moved to third on a Mason Robbins double and came home on a wild pitch. Later in the inning, Eddy Alvarez laced an RBI single to score Robbins.
An RBI hit from Nick Basto against Carlos Pinales in the third tacked on a third run, and Leonards came up with a sacrifice fly in the inning to make the score 4-0.
The early runs were plenty for Intimidators starter Spencer Adams (2-3), who allowed just one run over five and two-third innings with five strikeouts.
The Drive finally got to Adams in the sixth inning when Mike Meyers launched a solo shot high over the Green Monster for his third homer of the season.
Leonards was at it again for Kannapolis in the seventh, as his grand slam to straightaway center made the score 8-1 following a Drive error to prolong the inning. Leonards finished the night with five RBI.
Jordan Procyshen and Nick Longhi came up with RBI hits in the bottom of the eighth for the Drive. Those two joined Meyers with two-hit nights for Greenville.
The rubber game of the series begins at 7:05 PM on Wednesday night at Fluor Field. RH Reed Reilly (3-2, 4.17) takes the ball for the Drive, and the Intimidators will send RH Yelmison Peralta (2-4, 8.01) to the mound.
