Greensboro Grasshoppers News Release

The Greensboro Grasshoppers earned a split of their four-game series with the Lexington Legends with a 5-0 victory Monday night.

The Legends had scoring opportunities, especially early in the game, but left 13 runners on base, including seven in the first three innings.

Greensboro took a 2-0 lead in the bottom of the second inning. Ben Lasater led off with a single, and Thomas Hickman drew a walk. The runners moved up to second and third on an infield out. Torrey Langley's fly ball was dropped by Lexington center fielder Steve Brown, his first error of the season. Brown threw out Langley, who was trying to reach second, but Lasater scored from third and Hickman reached third on the play.

After Daniel Pertusati was hit by a pitch, Paul Gran singled, driving in Hickman and giving Greensboro a 2-0 lead.

The Grasshoppers doubled that margin with two more in the third. Hickman's two-out double scored Lasater, who had walked. Hickman went to third on a throwing error by right fielder Russ Dixon and scored on a base hit by Justin Bass to make the score 4-0..

Greensboro added one more run in the eighth inning on consecutive singles by Isaac Galloway, Jake Smolinski and Ryan Keedy.

Greensboro starter Graham Johnson (6-7) worked the first five innings and got the win. Jordan Lyles (6-11) was the starting and losing pitcher for Lexington.

The Legends return home to open their final homestand of the season Tuesday night against the Hickory Crawdads. Game time is 7:05 p.m. The Legends will play four against Hickory and three against Greenville to close out the home schedule.
