Jersey Shore BlueClaws News Release

LAKEWOOD, NJ - Brett Myers started and worked a clean inning in the first, but the Lakewood BlueClaws were shut out for the third time this season, this time, by the Lake County Captains 2-0 in game one of a doubleheader on Monday.

The former Phillies Opening Day starter is rehabbing from having hip surgery early in the season and hasn't pitched for the Phillies since May 27th. In his second rehab outing since his return, Myers went one inning with the BlueClaws, got a ground ball and a strikeout before allowing a walk and ending the inning on a fly ball to center field. He threw 14 pitches, seven for strikes.

Rob Roth (4-3) then came on in the second inning and worked clean until the third where he allowed a run in each the third and fourth. The Captains (31-24) took a 2-0 lead early in the seven-inning game.

The BlueClaws (27-26) had chances in the fifth and sixth inning, but couldn't push any runs across the plate. Trey Haley (4-7), who has had control problems this season, was splendid in five innings. He allowed three hits, walked two and struck out seven. Kaimi Mead worked a clean sixth and closer Steve Smith picked up his 23rd save in an easy seventh inning.
