Hickory Crawdads News Release
HICKORY, N.C. - The South Atlantic League announced on Monday that Hickory Crawdads OF Cristian Santana has been named the SAL Player of the Week for Aug. 17 - 23.
Santana, 20, hit .379 (11-29) with six home runs, nine RBIs and eight runs scored in seven games during the week. The native of Loma de Cabrela, Dominican Republic, homered in five straight games from Aug. 17 to Aug. 21, putting together the longest home run streak for the Crawdads this season. Santana hit six bombs during his streak, capping it with two long-balls against the Asheville Tourists on Friday. He drove in three RBIs in a single game twice on the week, and collected multiple hits in five of the seven games as well. Santana also scored at least one run in six straight games during the week from Aug. 17 to Aug. 22.
In 76 games on the season, Santana is hitting .221 with 18 home runs and 52 RBIs. His next long-ball will put him into sole possession for the team lead this season, as he is currently tied with former Crawdad Erik Morrison, who was promoted to the Bakersfield Blaze in the California League (High-A) last week. Santana signed with the Texas Rangers as a non-drafted free agent in 2005, and is currently having the most powerful offensive season of his professional career, never before hitting more than 11 homers in a single campaign.
