Greenville Drive News Release

Charleston, WV - The West Virginia Power (58-65, 31-22) lived up to their moniker Monday night in the series finale versus the Drive (66-58, 27-29). As they continue to make a run at the Northern Division's second half championship, six of the Power's 11 hits went for extra bases as they ran away with a 12-6 victory at Appalachian Power Park.

Greenville's Stolmy Pimentel (9-7) was denied his 10th win of the season as he lasted just 2.0 innings in his 21st start of the season. West Virginia began the game with a scoring barrage, plating six runs in the bottom of the first.

The Power sent 10 batters to the plate, totaling five hits as Bobby Spain knocked in the first runs with a two-run single. Danny Bomback contributed an RBI-double, while Josue Peley and Starling Marte each added RBI-singles.

It was more of the same in the bottom of the first as West Virginia extended their lead to eight runs, by pushing across two more. Quincy Lattimore led off with a double and eventually scored on Calvin Anderson's groundout, before Kyle Morgan belted a solo homer.

It wasn't until the Power built a 9-0 lead that the Drive finally posted a run, coming in the top of the fifth. Ryan Dent doubled to leadoff the inning, advanced to third on a wild pitch and scored on Oscar Tejeda's sacrifice fly.

The Drive got as close as six runs as they added two unearned runs in the top of the seventh. A two-out fielding error by Adenson Chourio on Ryan Lavarnway's batted ball allowed Tejeda and Shannon Wilkerson to score.

After a four inning scoring hiatus, the Power added three more runs in what would be their final at bat. Peley highlighted the eighth with a two-run double, with West Virginia's other run coming on a throwing error by Dent.

Greenville put together a three-run ninth inning off reliever Rafael De Los Santos, all with two outs. Will Middlebrooks tallied an RBI-double and Alex Hassan knocked in two more with a two-bagger of his own.

The Drive now return home to Fluor Field on Tuesday when they begin their second to last homestand of the 2009 regular season, with a four-game series against the Kannapolis Intimidators. Left-hander Fabian Williamson (10-4, 2.23 ERA) will toe the rubber for Greenville, as Kannapolis counters with right-hander Stephen Sauer (6-5, 3.51 ERA).
