Braves salvage final game of series

Rome, GA - The Rome Braves defeated the Savannah Sand Gnats 5-3 Monday night in front of 2,055 fans at State Mutual Stadium win salvage the final game of their three game series.

Rome posted two runs on the board in the first inning. Shayne Moody and Joel Campusano both walked and Adam Milligan singled to score Moody. Luis Sumoza then grounded into a force out scoring the Campusano for the 2-0 score.

Rome would add to their lead in the bottom of the third when Milligan singled to right and Samuel Sime reached base on a throwing error moving Milligan to third. A wild pitch plated Milligan and Matt Kennelly singled to score Sime making it 4-0. In the bottom of the fifth Rome added another run on a Sime RBI double for the 5-0 lead.

The Sand Gnats scored runs in the top of the sixth and ninth innings. Jefry Marte led off the sixth with a single to left and later scores on Nick Giarraputo's single. Josh Satin singled in the ninth and Raul Reyes tripled to score him and Jean Luc Blaquiere grounded out to score Reyes for the 5-3 final.

J.J. Hoover (7-5) gets the win and Brad Burns (1-3) the loss. Starter Mike Minor went three shutout innings, giving up two hits while striking out two.
