(GREENSBORO, N.C.) - The Greensboro Swarm, the NBA G League affiliate of the Charlotte Hornets, dropped their first game of the regular season, 124-111, against the College Park Skyhawks (Atlanta Hawks affiliate) on Friday at the Fieldhouse at the Greensboro Coliseum Complex. The defeat slides the Swarm to 2-1 overall while the Skyhawks improved to 3-2.

Greensboro was led by Vernon Carey Jr. who scored a season-high 29 points to go with seven rebounds and three assists in 34 minutes of action. The Hornets assignment player has scored at least 20 points in five of his name games with the Swarm in 2021-22.

The Skyhawks were powered by the trio of DaQuan Jeffries (32 points, seven rebounds), Justin Tillman (30 points, seven rebounds) and Cat Barber (26 points, nine assists). Barber was particularly effective down the stretch, scoring 13 points in the fourth quarter en route to the victory.

The Swarm led, 27-25, after the first quarter but College Park managed to outscore Greensboro in each of the remaining periods. Both teams were playing well offensively, with College Park shooting 47-for-89 from the field (52.8 percent) while Greensboro went 42-of-80 (52.5 percent).

Jalen Crutcher (18 points, four assists) gave the Swarm their last lead in the game with a 3-pointer late in the third quarter. Unfortunately for the home team, the Skyhawks responded with a 13-3 run which led the way for the double-digit victory.

Other notable performances for the Swarm included Scottie Lewis' 18 points, six rebounds and three blocks; Joe Chealey's third double-double (15 points, 14 rebounds); DJ Carton's 11 points and Cameron McGriff's 10 points.

Greensboro returns to action on Saturday at 7:00 p.m. ET against the Capital City Go-Go (Washington Wizards affiliate) at the Fieldhouse. The two sides play again on Monday for a special 1:00 p.m. ET tip.
