Augusta GreenJackets News Release
Augusta, GA - The Augusta GreenJackets 20th Anniversary season is underway but Augusta is going back 30 years for 70's night at Lake Olmstead Stadium. On Saturday, May 3 Augusta will turn back the clock and the night will feature a 70's theme and a bobblehead giveaway of GreenJackets pitching Coach Ross Grimsley.
"Saturday will be a lot of fun and fans are really going to have a good time with everything we have planned and the Grimsley bobblehead is going to be a great collector's item," GreenJackets General Manager Nick Brown said. "The bobblehead really looks great and we wanted to make sure it had just as much hair as Grims did in his playing days"
The first 1,000 fans through the gates will receive a bobblehead that features Grimsley in a Baltimore jersey. Grimsley made his Major League Debut in 1971 with Cincinnati and pitched in the big leagues through 1982 with the Reds, the Baltimore Orioles, Montreal Expos, and Cleveland Indians.
Grimsley pitched in three League Championships and in the World Series in 1972. Voted to the National League All-Star team in 1978 with Montreal, Grimsley finished the '78 season 20-11 with a 3.51 ERA. Grimsley finished his career with a 124-99 record and a 3.81 ERA.
Also on Saturday night, there will also be a 70's cover band playing before the game outside the stadium. During the game there will be a 70's disco dance contest, 70's best dressed contest and 70's game shows between innings.
The GreenJackets will also be selling Pabst Blue Ribbon beer for $1 all night long as they turn back the clock to the disco days.
"We really wanted to make sure this night was as unique as possible and featured as many 70's themes as possible," Brown said. "The 70's were such a unique decade and so many people can relate to it in one way or another." The GreenJackets are celebrating their 20th Anniversary this season of baseball returning to Augusta.
