Indiana Mad Ants News Release
Wilmington, Del. - The Delaware Blue Coats (16-20) defeated the Fort Wayne Mad Ants, 140-129, at the 76ers Fieldhouse on Wednesday night.
Rob Gray and Omari Johnson led all scorers on the road with 28 points each, which was a new season high for Johnson. Wednesday was Gray's fifth game with at least 25 points in the last six outings.
Fort Wayne (19-18) did not trail in the first quarter, which featured a 10-point outburst from Gray in the first nine minutes of the game.
Delaware would respond with a 10-of-14 clip from the three-point line in the second quarter to take a 75-65 lead into the locker room. The hot shooting would continue from the Blue Coats in Fort Wayne's first trip to the newly constructed 76ers Fieldhouse.
Fort Wayne would cut the lead down to as much as six in the third quarter, but the balanced scoring from Delaware kept the Mad Ants from making a run for the remainder of the game. After three quarters, Delaware had seven players with at least 10 points and 19 combined made three-point shots.
A heroic fourth quarter from newly acquired Jovan Mooring kept Fort Wayne within reach of the Blue Coats. In Mooring's debut with the Mad Ants, he poured in 14 of his 22 points in the final quarter, including a 5-of-6 mark from the free throw line while playing the last 12 minutes of the game.
Matt Farrell concluded the night leading the Blue Coats with a career-high 26 points on 7-of-12 shooting for the rookie off the bench. Rashad Vaughn and Justin Patton chipped in 22 and 20 points each for Delaware.
In the second quarter, Stephan Hicks' cutting layup at the 8:36 mark cemented his place as one of the greatest scorers in Mad Ants history. The layup elevated him to 2,085 career points as a Mad Ant, giving him the second most points scored in team history. Hicks passed Walker Russell, who tallied 2,083 points in his career with the Mad Ants. Only Ron Howard - with 4,324 points - leads Hicks on the franchise rankings.
The Mad Ants will look to respond on the road in a matchup with the Windy City Bulls on Friday night. Delaware will stay at home and host Maine on Friday.
The Mad Ants return home on Saturday to take on Canton. Tickets are available by visiting ftwaynemadants.com or calling 260-469-4667.
