AMARILLO, TX – The best rivalry in the Central Hockey League has never taken on more meaning than it has this season or it will in the coming weeks.

The Amarillo Gorillas and the Lubbock Cotton Kings will square off in the Best-of-Seven Southern Conference Semi-Final series beginning later this week. It's the first time that this rivalry will go head to head in Central Hockey League playoff history.

In the regular season, the Gorillas have taken two games in overtime at Lubbock Municipal Coliseum, and all but one game at The Jungle in the Amarillo Civic Center. That one game was last night in the showdown for the CHL's Southwest Division showdown that Lubbock needed a late goal to beat the Gorillas 1-0.

The Gorillas and the Cotton Kings are two of three Southwest Division teams involved in the Southern Conference playoffs, while the Laredo Bucks are the lone team from the Southeast Division.

The opening game of the best of seven series between the Amarillo Gorillas and the Lubbock Cotton Kings is set for this Thursday at 7 p.m. at Lubbock Municipal Coliseum with the second game set for the following night Friday at 7 p.m. These two playoff games as well as all of the Gorillas' post season action can be heard on the official flagship station of the Gorillas 1440 Am The Score. The action begins with the Farmer's Insurance Group Prelude to the Playoffs at 6:40 p.m. Amarillo Gorillas Hockey Presented by Bank of America follows at 7 p.m. The games will also be available on the world-wide-web at www.amarillogorillas.com.

The fifth game of the series which will be played if necessary in Amarillo will be a home game for Lubbock as they will wear their white jerseys and get the last change of players.
