Duda Wins CHL Scoring Title, Several CHL Records Fall
March 21, 2005 - Central Hockey League (CHL) News Release
Wichita All-Star forward Jason Duda enjoyed career highs of 66 assists and 96 points this season to earn the Joe Burton Award as the Central Hockey League's 2004-2005 Scoring Champion. A finalist for the CHL's Most Valuable Player award this season, Duda's 96 points finished the season three points ahead of teammate Travis Clayton and 2-time CHL MVP Don Parsons from Memphis, both with 93. Duda becomes the second Thunder player to lead the CHL in scoring, and ranks among the CHL's career top ten in goals (247, 8th) assists (379, 8th), points (626, 6th) and games played (515, 9th).
Several new CHL records were also established during the 2004-2005 regular season. Colorado goaltender Tyler Weiman, named both CHL Rookie of the Year and Most Outstanding Goaltender, set new marks for goals against average (1.80) and save percentage (.938) in a single season, while also tying three other goaltenders with a record eight shutouts during the year. Wichita's Derek Parker set new records with 503 penalty minutes and 47 majors, while Dan Wildfong of Bossier-Shreveport established a new mark with 118 minor penalties.
With a team goals against average of 2.05, the Bud Poile Governors' Cup (regular season) champion Colorado Eagles are in the record book, while also tying CHL marks for team shutout wins in a season (10) and most consecutive wins (12). With seven power play goals on December 17th, the Laredo Bucks equaled the CHL record held by three other clubs, while both Memphis and Tulsa scored a record three shorthanded goals in a game this season to join numerous other teams.
