Amarillo Gorillas News Release

Amarillo, TX 2/1/08 - The Amarillo Gorillas continued their winning ways on Friday night, beating the Arizona Sundogs 5-3 at the Amarillo Civic Center. It was the Gorillas fourth win in a row, and second straight over the Sundogs. Amarillo moved to 9-9-4 on home ice, and 15-22-4 overall on the season. The Gorillas were led by Grant Selinger and Austin Sutter, who both registered a goal and an assist. The four game win streak matched the season best for the Gorillas, who have a chance to make it five in a row next Friday night against Wichita.

Amarillo went 1-4 on the power play in the contest, while Arizona was limited to 0-2. Gorillas goaltender Dan McWhinney got his fifth straight start in net, and earned his fourth consecutive win making 28 saves.

The Gorillas outscored Arizona 2-1 in both the first and second periods to take a 4-2 lead into the final frame. The Sundogs would make things interesting with a goal from Karl Sellan, his second of the game, at 13:06 of the third to bring the Sundogs within one. Sellan's goal was initially waived off, but after a conversation with the linesmen, the goal was allowed. Amarillo would stand up to the Sundogs onslaught however, and ended up getting an empty-net goal with :12 left in regulation to solidify the win.

Amarillo is chasing Corpus Christi for the fifth playoff spot in the Southern Conference, and stays one point back of the Rayz as both teams ended up earning two points on the evening. The Gorillas are inactive until next Friday when they travel to Wichita to take on the Thunder.
