Bossier-Shreveport Mudbugs News Release
BOSSIER CITY, LA - For the second consecutive month, the Central Hockey League today announced Bossier-Shreveport Mudbugs goaltender Ken Carroll as its Sher-Wood CHL Goaltender of the Month for January. Carroll was honored as the league's goalie of the month for December as well, and earned an Oakley CHL Goaltender of the Week award for January 7th-13th. Combined with John DeCaro's award in November, a Mudbugs goaltender has earned the monthly award for three consecutive months.
Carroll continued his phenomenal play throughout the month of January, finishing the month without a single loss in seven starts. During that 7-0 span in the first month of 2008, Carroll recorded a 49-save shutout of Mississippi on the 22nd (the most saves ever in a shutout by a Mudbugs goaltender), and surrendered more than two goals just one time. He finished the month with a 1.43 goals-against average and a .956 saves percentage.
Overall this season, Carroll has won 13 consecutive starts and pushed his record to 14-3-1 with three shutouts. His 1.73 season GAA and .942 SPCT are second only to DeCaro among all CHL goaltenders. The seventh-year Mudbug is the fifth winningest goaltender in CHL history and owns the league record for career shutouts with 24.
In other Mudbugs news, the league announced yesterday that Bossier-Shreveport has taken over the number one spot in the latest CHL Coaches Poll. The Mudbugs received 15 of the 17 first place votes and 168 overall points, which beat out second place Rocky Mountain by 16 points. Bossier-Shreveport was ranked second in the last Coaches Poll.
The Mudbugs are gearing up for a pair of games this weekend in Wichita against the Thunder on Friday and Saturday at the Kansas Coliseum. Bossier-Shreveport will then return home to battle the Thunder again at CenturyTel Center on Tuesday evening. Both contests this weekend will face off at 7:05 pm with pregame coverage set to begin at 6:45 on 1130 AM KWKH.
