Beloit Sky Carp News Release

BELOIT, WI - The Snappers started the game off fast against the South Bend Silver Hawks with a first inning three-run blast to deep right-center field by first basemen Michael Gonzales. That was all the run support B.J. Hermsen needed tonight to help the Snappers win the first game of the series against the Silver Hawks, 5-1.

A quick one-two-three first inning by B.J. Hermsen (9-6) set the tone for the whole game. In the bottom half, Adam Bryant and Jairo Perez both singled in front of Michael Gonzales' 13th home run of the season.

In the second inning, Beloit kept up the pressure on the Silver Hawks. Beloit short stop Daniel Santana singled, stole his 20th base of the season after South Bend pitch Tyler Green (3-4) threw over five times and scored on an Adam Bryant's 5th double of the year, down the left field line to make the score 4-0 Snappers.

B.J. Hermsen cruised into the sixth inning when he ran into some trouble for the first time. South Bends' center fielder Ender Inciarte broke up the no-hit bid in the top of the sixth and later scored on a line drive single to center from short stop Zachary Walters. Still with two runners on and only one out, Hermsen received some defensive help with a 3-6-1 double play to end the Silver Hawk threat.

Snapper reliever Michael Tonkin came in the 8th to secure the win with four strikeouts to secure Hermsen's ninth win of the season. Santana helped the cause making a great leaping catch on Silver Hawk Roberto Ortiz's flare to short left center field.

Adam Bryant helped out by going 2-for-4 with a run and an RBI. Santana also had a solid game going 2-for-3 with a run and an RBI of his own.

For the Silver Hawks (6-13), they only managed five total hits in the game, and the one-run they scored in the sixth inning, came without an RBI. Team-leader in batting average Zach Walters finished 1-for-4. Starting pitcher Tyler Green surrendered four earned runs on six hits over his five innings pitched as he suffered his fourth loss of the season and his ERA went up to 4.91.

The "Brody Trophy Player of the Game" goes to Michael Gonzales, who went 1-for-2, with two walks and a three-run home run.

Tomorrow, the two teams continue their three-game series at Pohlman Field starting at 7:00pm when Beloit's Adrian Salcedo (5-3, 2.81 ERA) faces Michael Bolsinger (2-3, 2.38 ERA) for South Bend. Tomorrow will mark yet another Ticket and T-Shirt Thursday and Horny Goat Brewing Company Giveaway. For just $10, fans can get an official Snappers logo t-shirt and a ticket to the game. Fans can by any Horny Goat Brewing Company Beer and be entered in a contest to win a $50 gift card to the Horny Goat Brewing Company in Milwaukee, WI.
