Dayton Dragons (13-5, 48-40) at Quad Cities River Bandits (10-8, 50-37)

RH Stalin Gerson (3-0, 0.75) vs. LH Ryan Copeland (0-1, 3.94)

Today's Game: The Dayton Dragons (affiliate of the Cincinnati Reds) meet the Quad Cities River Bandits (affiliate of the St. Louis Cardinals) in the first game of a three-game series. Season Series: This is the first meeting of the year between the two clubs.

Last Game: Dayton lost to South Bend on Monday, 3-2, in a game shortened by rain to five and one-half innings. The Dragons led 2-0 after the last fully-completed inning (fifth). South Bend scored three runs in the top of the sixth inning and the game was stopped before the Dragons could come to bat in the bottom of the inning. The game could not be resumed. The game, by rule, became a suspended game when the Dragons did not get the chance to bat in the bottom of the sixth. The two teams do not play again in 2011, so the game cannot be completed. Midwest League President George Spelius has declared South Bend the winner after consultation with Minor League Baseball officials and interpretation of league rules.

Today's Dragons Starting Pitcher: Stalin Gerson makes his fifth start for the Dragons and his seventh start overall in the Reds organization in 2011 tonight. He has not allowed more than one run in any of the six starts in 2011. He faced Fort Wayne in his last start on Friday and earned the win (6.1 IP, 3 H, 0 R, 0 ER, 2 BB, 3 SO). Gerson joined the Dragons from extended spring training for two starts (1-0, 0.82) and then was assigned to Billings, where he earned Pioneer League Pitcher of the Week (2-0, 0.75). He returned to the Dragons at the start of July. Gerson pitched last season with Billings of the Pioneer League and posted a record of 3-4 with a 4.88 earned run average in 15 starts. He walked only 18 and struck out 52 in 75.2 innings. Gerson was signed by the Reds as an international free agent prior to the 2008 season and spent two years in the Dominican Summer League.
