Lansing Lugnuts News Release

GENEVA, Ill. - The Lansing Lugnuts (11-8, 49-37) whitewashed the Kane County Cougars (13-6, 41-47) 4-0 in Wednesday night's series opener behind a career high seven scoreless innings from Marcus Walden.

The game took just one hour and 55 minutes to play, the shortest nine-inning game of the season for both teams.

Returning from both nerve transposition surgery and Tommy John surgery, the 22-year-old Walden (Win, 4-2) posted perhaps the finest outing of his five-year career. Cheslor Cuthbert's fifth inning single ended a stretch of 13 consecutive batters set down to start the game. A Julio Aparicio sixth inning single and a Cuthbert single in the seventh provided the only other baserunners against the dominant right-hander.

Shawn Griffith took over for the final two frames, inducing a double play after allowing a leadoff single in the eighth and setting down the final five Cougars in order.

Kane County starter Leondy Perez (Loss, 2-10) also pitched seven innings, striking out seven, but three runs (two earned) on six hits and a walk to suffer the defeat.

Marcus Knecht led the Lugnuts' offense with three RBIs, with Jake Marisnick and Carlos Perez each going 3-for-4 with two runs scored.

The Lugnuts will send left-hander Sean Nolin (1-2, 4.0) to the mound at 7:30 p.m. ET on Thursday night, opposing Kane County Cougars right-hander Greg Billo (7-1, 1.37).

Lansing will be back in action at Cooley Law School Stadium on Wednesday, July 20, at 12:05 p.m., taking on the Wisconsin Timber Rattlers on a Summer Fun Day. Tickets are available for purchase online at www.lansinglugnuts.com, at the stadium box office, and by calling 517-485-4500.
