Goertzen Assigned to Crunch

Syracuse, NY (October 2, 2006) - The Syracuse Crunch announced today that the Columbus Blue Jackets have assigned right wing Steven Goertzen to the Crunch. In addition, the Crunch have assigned defenseman Brad Farynuk and center Trevor Frischmon to Dayton (ECHL) and have released goaltender Andy Franck, center Jeff Genovy and left wing Wes Rypien from their try-out contracts.

Goertzen, 22, split time with Columbus (39gp, 44 PIM's) and Syracuse (40gp, 7g, 8a, 55 PIM's) last season. In 105 career AHL games, all with Syracuse, Goertzen has tallied 9 goals, 18 assists and 159 penalty minutes. A native of Stony Plain, Alberta, Goertzen was selected by Columbus in the seventh round, 225th overall, in the 2002 Entry Draft.

The Crunch training camp roster currently stands at 28 players (3 goaltenders, 9 defensemen and 16 forwards).

The Crunch open their 13th AHL season on October 6 in Toronto. The clubs home opener is Friday, October 13 vs. Wilkes-Barre/Scranton for Express Mart Opening Night.
