Goaltender Kowalski Joins the Monsters

Lowell, Mass. - The Lowell Lock Monsters announced today that G Craig Kowalski was reassigned by the Carolina Hurricanes to the Lock Monsters from the Florida Everblades of the ECHL. In addition, G Kevin Nastiuk and C Steve Saviano were both reassigned to the Everblades.

Kowalski, 24, was reassigned to Lowell back in October but has never appeared in any AHL games. In 18 ECHL games with the Everblades this season, the Clinton Township, Michigan native compiled a 12-6-0 record, with a 2.80 GAA and a..915 save percentage. His 12 wins are tied for fourth in the ECHL and was 10-2-0 in his last 12 games with one shutout.

In 2004-05, Kowalski made his professional debut, spending the entire season with the Everblades. He appeared in 27 games, putting up a 13-6-6 record with a 2.87 GAA and..906 save percentage. He also compiled a 3-0 record in six playoff appearances. Kowalski competed for four seasons at Northern Michigan University, were he amassed a career record of 68-49-12.

Nastiuk, 20, is in his rookie season in the pro ranks after a strong major junior career with the Medicine Hat Tigers. The former fourth round pick of the Hurricanes in the 2003 draft was 1-7-3 with a 3.75 GAA and a..887 save percentage with the Lock Monsters this season. Saviano, 24, was recalled by Lowell on November 22nd, and appeared in 16 games with the Monsters. The Reading, Massachusetts native notched a pair of goals, including a shorthanded tally for his first AHL goal, and one assist.

The Monsters hit the road for their next four and return to face the Providence Bruins on Saturday, January 14th. The first 2,500 fans will get a Lock Monsters winter cap, courtesy of TD Banknorth. It's also Locks of Love night, and Fantastic Sam's will be on hand trimming hair and collecting donations for Locks of Love - a non-profit organization that provides hairpieces to financially disadvantaged children suffering from long-term medical hair loss.
