Long Beach Ice Dogs News Release

LONG BEACH, Calif. – The Long Beach Ice Dogs announced today that the Calgary Flames of the National Hockey League have assigned goaltender Sebastien Centomo to Long Beach for the remainder of the season. In return, Long Beach sent the rights to goaltender Chris Madden and future considerations to Las Vegas, where Centomo was previously assigned, to complete the trade.

Centomo, a 6'1", 196 pound goaltender from Laval, Quebec, has played in 31 games with the Las Vegas Wranglers this season, going 13-12-4 with two shutouts, a 2.60 goals against average and a .923 save percentage. The 23-year-old goaltender has played 83 AHL games for the St. John's Maple Leafs over the past three seasons and even played two periods with the Toronto Maple Leafs in the 2001-02 season. He is expected to stay with the Ice Dogs for the remainder of the regular season and Kelly Cup Playoffs as Chris Madden is expected to remain with the Providence Bruins.

"With the recall of Madden, we felt it was necessary to bring in another quality number one goalie", said head coach Malcolm Cameron. "We need two good quality goalies at this point in the season as we compete for a playoff spot."

Centomo was awarded Rookie of the Year honors in the 2001-02 season with the Memphis Riverkings of the Central Hockey League, in addition to going 16-1-0 with a 2.09 goals against average and winning the CHL championship. He was also named Rookie of the Year for the St. John's Maple Leafs during the same season.

Centomo will join the Dogs when they play the San Diego Gulls tonight at the San Diego Sports Arena at 7:05 PM. The Ice Dogs next home game is Wednesday, March 23rd at 7 PM versus the Gwinnett Gladiators in the first ever meeting between the two teams.
