Myrtle Beach Thunderboltz News Release

FLORENCE, SC -- The Pee Dee Pride mounted a comeback in the third period, but it was not enough, as the Greenville Grrrowl defeated the Pride 6-4 in front of 1,838 fans on Thursday at the Florence Civic Center.

The Grrrowl raced out to a 3-0 lead in the first half of the opening period, scoring three times in a span of 2:07. Colin Pepperall (7:22), Chris Kovalcik (7:42) and Ed Caron (9:29) all beat Pride goaltender Sebastien Laplante, who was pulled in favor of Nick Boucher after Caron's goal.

Pee Dee got on the scoreboard with a goal off of the stick of Tyler Kindle 3:27 into the second period to cut the deficit in half.

Greenville added two goals early in the third period to stake out a four-goal advantage. Pepperall tallied his second goal of the night just 29 seconds into the final period, and then Ales Kojevnikov delivered a back-breaking goal at 4:33.

The Pride did not go quietly however, as Steve Hildenbrand pushed a puck past Greenville goaltender Mike Brouder at 5:40. Gregg Johnson earned an assist on the goal, extending his point streak to nine games.

Pee Dee pulled within two at 11:33 as Johnson ripped a slap shot past Brodeur for a power-play tally, and his team-leading 19th goal of the season.

The Pride made it a one goal game less than two minutes later as Kyle Kidney slid a shot past Brodeur on a goal-mouth scramble.

Pee Dee got a power-play opportunity late as Scott Balan picked up a spearing penalty at 17:11, but the Pride was unable to capitalize.

The Grrrowl set the final, getting an empty-net tally off of the stick of Kovalcik with 13 seconds remaining.

Pee Dee concludes its five-game homestand tomorrow night, hosting the Charlotte Checkers at 7:30 p.m. The Kelly Cup will be on display on the concourse throughout the night, and fans are encouraged to bring their camers to get their pictures taken with the Cup, as well as Pat Kelly. Following the game, the Pride will conduct a live auction of the St. Patrick's Day jerseys, sponsored by Colortyme Rent-to-Own. A portion of the proceeds from the jersey auction will benefit the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation.

Tickets for all remaining Pride home games are available at the Florence Civic Center Box Office, or through TicketMaster at (843) 679-9333 or www.ticketmaster.com.
