North Charleston, SC South Carolina Stingrays Head Coach Jason Fitzsimmons announced today that right winger Jonas Johansson has been assigned to the team by the Portland Pirates of the AHL. Johansson, a rookie, will be in the lineup for the Stingrays tonight when they host the Columbia Inferno.

Johansson has played in 40 games this season with the Pirates and scored three goals while adding five assists. He was a first round draft pick of the Colorado Avalanche in 2002 (28th overall). A native of Sweden, Jonas stands 6'-2" and weighs 190 pounds. In three games with the Stingrays earlier this season, Johansson scored three goals and added an assist for four points.

"Jonas will give us another weapon up front heading into an important weekend," commented Fitzsimmons, whose Stingrays have won six straight at home and will host Columbia tonight and Pee Dee tomorrow. "He has great skills and had an impressive stint with us the last time he was down. We are looking forward to seeing what he can do tonight."

Johansson needs two more games at the ECHL level to qualify for the Stingrays post season roster.

Tonight's game is Coca-Cola/Bi- Lo Jersey Off the Back Night as the Rays will give away their jerseys after the game to 20 lucky fans. Tomorrow night's game is Post and Courier Hall of Fame Night, with Dave Seitz being inducted into the Stingrays Hall of Fame.
