Gladiators Zapolski Named ECHL Goalie of the Week

Gladiators Goaltender Ryan Zapolski has been named the ECHL Goaltender of the Week for the Week of March 5th through March 11th.

Zapolski went 2-0-0-0 during the week to help the Gladiators maintain the top spot overall in the ECHL's Eastern Conference. He posted a 0.50 goals against average and a .985 save percentage for Gwinnett in wins over Cincinnati and Greenville.

On Tuesday, Zapolski made 34 saves in a 3-1 win over division rival Greenville, the Gladiators first win this season at the Bi-Lo Center. He followed that up with his second shutout of the season as he made 30 saves in a 2-0 win over the Cincinnati Cyclones on Friday night.

Zapolski has posted a 6-1-0-1 record with the Gladiators this season and has earned a 1.97 goals against average and a .932 save percentage in 10 games. In addition to Gwinnett, he has also split time this season with Kalamazoo and Toledo. He has notched a 1.98 goals against average and a .935 save percentage in 13 ECHL games this season.

Prior to turning pro, Zapolski played four seasons at Mercyhurst College where he appeared in 109 games and went 48-43-11 with eight shutouts, a 2.77 goals-against average and a save percentage of .920.

The Gladiators are the ECHL Affiliate of the Buffalo Sabres and the Phoenix Coyotes of the National Hockey League and are members of the ECHL, the Premier "AA" Hockey League and play all home games at the 11,355-seat Arena at Gwinnett Center, located just off I-85 on Sugarloaf Parkway in Duluth.
