Atlanta Gladiators News Release
Tied: Gwinnett's Tom Zanoski tied a team record of four points in a season opener with two goals and two assists against Wheeling on Saturday, October 17th. Sharing the mark are Brad Schell, also with two goals and two assists, in the 2006-07 season opener against South Carolina on October 20, 2006 and Jeff Campbell, who had four assists in the first game of the 2007-2008 season against the Pensacola Ice Pilots on October 19, 2007.
Streaking: Gladiators Scott Mifsud and Brad Schell opened the 2009-10 season with point streaks. Schell finished the opening weekend with three assists in two games, and Mifsud finished with two assists in two games, tied for second and third in assists in the league respectively.
Pepper: The Gladiators have recorded 32 or more shots in eight of their last 10 regular season games, dating back to last season, including 34 and 36 in their first two games this season.
Pulling Away: Brad Schell continued to widen the gap in all time Gladiators points between him and the next closest person to 56 points with his three assists over the weekend. Jeff Campbell, who played with the Gladiators form 2004-2008, is the next closest on the list with 254 points. Schell now has 310 career points as a Gladiator.
Shots: Gwinnett Allowed a league low two shots in a period to Wheeling in the first period of their home opener on Saturday, October 17. The Gladiators allowed just 15 shots in the game, the same number of shots allowed by the Bakersfield Condors in a 5-0 win over the Ontario Reign on October 16th.

Tom Zanoski notched a pair of goals and figured in all four of the Gladiators tallies as Gwinnett knocked off the Wheeling Nailers 4-1 in their season opener. Gwinnett improved to 6-0-1 in season openers with the win. Adam Berti and Brad Schell each had two assists in the contest while Josh Johnson finished with 14 saves in the win for Gwinnett. The Gladiators notched a pair of goals on the power play in the win.
October 18, Wheeling 3, Gwinnett 1 - L
The Nailers had goals from 3 different players en route to a 3-1 victory over the Gladiators. Wheeling earned their first win of the season and a split in the road series at Gwinnett. Nailers goaltender Jordan Parise stopped 33 of 34 shots. Bad Blood from the previous night's game boiled over as Miller fought Loya 2:23 into the contest and then Couch fought Schnell later in the first period.

This week, the Gladiators travel to South Carolina for three straight games against the reigning American Conference and Kelly Cup Champion Stingrays. The two teams enter the series tied in the standings with two points each. The Gladiators are 19-13-1-3 all time against the Stingrays and 6-8-1-1 against the Stingrays in on the road. Last season, the Gladiators went 6-7-1 against the Stingrays and were 2-3 against them in South Carolina. South Carolina's Rob Ricci leads the team with two points on two goals.
The Gladiators continue their 7th season in the ECHL on Tuesday, October 20th at South Carolina at 7:05 p.m. The Gladiators are the AA affiliate of the Atlanta Thrashers and Columbus Blue Jackets and play all home games at the 11,355-seat Arena at Gwinnett Center, located just off I-85 on Sugarloaf Parkway in Duluth.
