
Gladiators trade for defensive specialist Marvin Taylor

Las Vegas, NV â The Las Vegas Gladiators have acquired defensive specialist Marvin Taylor from the Philadelphia Soul it was announced by Gladiators Head Coach Frank Haege.
In exchange for Taylor, the Gladiators sent the rights to quarterback Tommy Maddox, OL/DL Luis Almanzar, OS Michael Lewis and OL/DL Denny Fortney, all four who were on the Gladiators exempt list, to the Soul. To make room on the Gladiators roster, the team released WR/DB Donald Malloy.
Taylor (6'1", 185, Florida A&M) spent the 2002 and 2003 seasons with the Chicago Rush. He was the Soul's first selection (eighth overall) in the 2004 Expansion Draft. Taylor finished the 2003 season with a career high 52 tackles, nine pass breakups and three interceptions in 12 games.
The Gladiators open the 2004 campaign on Friday, February 6, at the Colorado Crush. Kickoff is scheduled for 6 PM PT and can be heard on ESPN Radio 920 in Las Vegas with Andrew Siciliano and Mike Pritchard back to handle the call.
The Gladiators first home game will be Noon on Saturday, February 2 at the Thomas & Mack Center against the Los Angeles Avengers. The game will be televised nationally by NBC.
Often recognized as one of the nation's most affordable and fan-friendly sports leagues, the Arena Football League will begin its 18th season in February 2004, making it the second-longest running football league in U.S. history, trailing only the NFL. On the strength of its Mission Statement and Fans' Bill of Rights, the AFL is America's fastest growing sport. The Austin Wranglers joins the Philadelphia Soul and New Orleans VooDoo as the three expansion teams added for the 2004 season. At least two more teams will be added in each of the next two seasons. A network-TV sport, the AFL will celebrate its second season on NBC in 2004.
