LOS ANGELES -- With their season opener on Sunday rapidly approaching, the Los Angeles Avengers placed nine players on the injured reserve list, trimming their active roster down to 23 players, one below the Arena Football League's regular-season limit, head coach Ed Hodgkiss announced today.
The nine Avengers on the injured reserve list are defensive specialist Kyle Grove, offensive specialist Ryan Hoag, offensive/defensive lineman Ken Kocher, wide receiver/defensive back Brian Leigeb, fullback/linebacker Wes Ours, wide receiver/defensive back Jerome Riley, offensive/defensive lineman Johnathan Taylor, wide receiver/linebacker Scott Thomas and offensive/defensive lineman La'Zerius White.
The Avengers will kick off their fifth season in the 18-year-old AFL on Sunday, Feb. 8, on the road against the Arizona Rattlers at America West Arena. Game time is set for noon (Pacific) and the contest will be televised live on KNBC Channel 4. Twenty of the 23 players on the active roster will suit up for the contest.
Following another road game on Valentine's Day against the Las Vegas Gladiators, the Avengers will play their home opener at STAPLES Center on Sunday, Feb. 22, versus the San Jose SaberCats. Both of those games also will kick off at noon and be televised on KNBC.
