
Philadelphia Soul finalize 24-man roster

PHILADELPHIA â The Philadelphia Soul, of the Arena Football League, has finalized their 24-man roster that will take the field this Sunday, February 8th when the Soul host fellow expansion franchise, New Orleans VooDoo at Wachovia Center. The final roster includes 18 Arena Football veterans, 75% of the final 24-man roster.
The team also announced they have obtained former Arena Football League Built Ford Tough Man of the Year, and three-time All-Arena selection, WR/LB Gary Compton from Tampa Bay for a future consideration, and traded DS Marvin Taylor to Las Vegas for Other League Exempt OL/DL Luis Almanzar, OL/DL Denny Fortney, OS Mike Lewis, currently with the New Orleans Saints and current Pittsburgh Steelers QB Tommy Maddox.
Almanzar is a member of the Denver Broncos and Fortney is a member of the Winnipeg Blue Bombers of the Canadian Football League.
In order to finalize the roster, the team placed the following players on recallable waivers:

WR/DB J'Sharlon Jones
WR/LB Shon King
QB Tim Levcik
OL/DL Giradie Mercer
Following the 24-man active roster, the team will build a four-man practice squad, which will be released Tuesday.
The team has placed K Brian Gowins on injured reserve with a left hamstring injury, as well as OL/DL Corey Mayfield with a torn meniscus in his left knee and Madison Johnson with a fractured left fibula.
K Ken Hinsley was signed to replace Gowins on the active roster. Hinsley (6-3, 225) worked out with the Soul in San Jose while the Soul were scrimmaging the SaberCats. Hinsley spent training camp with the Minnesota Vikings in 2000 after a stellar career with the Western Carolina Catamounts. Hinsley was named an All-American in 1998.
The Soul will begin their inaugural season this Sunday, February 8th at 3 p.m. against the New Orleans Voodoo at the Wachovia Center. The game will be broadcast live on NBC Sports. For ticket information call 215-636-0421.
