Gladiators Open 2nd Round Friday in South Carolina

The Gwinnett Gladiators will begin the second round of the Kelly Cup Playoffs on Friday, April 18th at the North Charleston Coliseum at 7:05 p.m. for Game 1 of the Division Semifinals against the South Carolina Stingrays. Game 2 will be Saturday night at the North Charleston Coliseum at 7:05 p.m. The Gladiators will host Game 3 of the series at the Arena at Gwinnett Center on Monday, April 22nd at 7:05 p.m. The complete 2nd round schedule is included in this release.

With South Carolina defeating Augusta 3-1 in game 5 of the final remaining South Division Quarterfinal series, the Gladiators opponent for the second round of the Kelly Cup Playoffs has been determined. The ECHL determined the South Division Playoff bracket for the first two rounds with the highest ranked team playing the lowest remaining ranked team.

The Gladiators 2nd round opponent was hinging on the outcome of the Augusta - South Carolina series. Texas, the top ranked team in the South Division would play the lowest remaining team - #5 Columbia after #7 Augusta lost 3 games to 2 in the Division Quarterfinals with the loss tonight - leaving Gwinnett with other remaining South Division team - #2 South Carolina.

The Gladiators swept the Charlotte Checkers 3 games to 0 in the Division Quarterfinals while the Columbia Inferno swept the Florida Everblades 3 games to 0 in their opening round series. Columbia will play Texas in the other South Division Semifinal series scheduled to open this weekend in Beaumont, Texas. Texas defeated Mississippi in the opening round of the playoffs 3 games to 1 to advance to the Division Semifinals.

The Gladiators will not have home ice advantage in the series with South Carolina. Game 3 as well as Game 4, if necessary, of the series will be at the Arena at Gwinnett Center. The complete schedule is below.

Fans should use "Playoff Game C" tickets for Game 3 of the Division Semifinals against South Carolina on Monday, April 21st at the Arena at Gwinnett Center at 7:05 p.m. "Playoff Game C" will be the Gladiators 3rd home playoff game of the 2008 Kelly Cup Playoffs. Game 4 of the series, if necessary, will be "Playoff Game D", the Gladiators 4th home playoff game of the 2008 Kelly Cup Playoffs.

The Gladiators continue their fifth anniversary season with Game 1 of the Division Semifinals against the South Carolina Stingrays on Friday, April 18th at 7:05 p.m. Catch all the play by play action in Game 1 of the series from the North Charleston Coliseum online via Accessnorthga.com Audio Streaming Channel 3.

Celebrating its 20th Anniversary as the Premier 'AA' Hockey League in 2007-08, the ECHL began in 1988-89 with five teams in three states and has grown to be a coast-to-coast league that has 25 teams in 17 states and British Columbia in 2007-08. The 25 teams includes the Mississippi (Biloxi) Sea Wolves, who return after missing two seasons in the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina, and the expansion Elmira (N.Y.) Jackals. The ECHL will play 900 games beginning Oct. 18 and concluding Apr. 5.
