South Carolina Stingrays News Release
Duluth, GA - The South Carolina Stingrays (36-26-5-3) fell to the Gwinnett Gladiators (42-26-2-1) 2-1 at The Arena at Gwinnett Center Saturday evening, wrapping up the regular-season series between the two teams. The Stingrays finished the series with a 6-6-2-0 record against their South-Division rivals.
The Stingrays took an early 1-0 lead in the first period with a tally from defenseman Scooter Vaughn slipping a shot between the legs of Gladiators goaltender Louis Domingue (W, 21 saves on 22 shots) from between the faceoff circles at 4:08. Forwards Chris Langkow and Jay Silivia picked up assists. Gladiators forward Joey Haddad tied the contest on the power play at 16:52 lifting a backhanded feed past the blocker of Stingrays netminder Ryan Zapolski (L, 33 saves on 35 shots).
Late in the second period, Langkow came close to reclaiming the lead for the Stingrays when forward Peter Boyd sent a backdoor pass to the near post, but Domingue denied the opportunity with a sliding right-pad save. Through two periods, the Gladiators outshot the Stingrays 25-15.
With the Stingrays on the power play, Haddad netted the game-winning tally shorthanded 31 seconds into the third period. The Stingrays ended the night 0-for-2 on the man advantage while the Gladiators finished 1-for-3.
