
Gladiators drop 4-3 shootout decision in Mississippi

For the third consecutive game, the Gladiators drop a 4-3 decision in a shootout as Louis Dumont's fifth round goal for the Mississippi Sea Wolves was the difference. Mike Vigilante gave the Gladiators a 1-0 with his second goal of the season just 103 seconds into the opening period. Peter Flache picked up an assist on the goal as he fed Vigilante who beat Mississippi netminder Randy Heavy to the glove side.
Kerry Ellis-Toddington tied the game at a goal apiece as he beat Gladiators netminder Adam Berkhoel over the shoulder at 13:58 of the first period. Louis Dumont won an offensive zone draw to Jay Legault who fed a waiting Ellis-Toddington at the point to pick up the assists on the goal.
Mississippi took a 2-1 lead on a deflection by Jeff Hutchins on the power play with 2:28 remaining in the opening period. Mike Martone fed Toddington at the point as the defenseman's shot was deflected past Berkhoel for the power play tally.
Travis Lisabeth extended the Sea Wolves lead to 3-1 as he picked up a rebound and tapped the puck past Berkhoel just 1:34 into the second period. Austin Miller added as assist on the Mississippi goal.
Brett Engelhardt scored his third goal of the season 8 second into a Gladiators power play cutting the Mississippi lead back to one. Jim Jackson and Brad Schell added the assists on the power play goal at 8:41 of the second period.
Gwinnett tied the contest up at three with Peter Flache's second goal of the season. Vigilante and Mike Stathopoulos dug the puck free from behind the net to find Flache open in the slot for the goal at 5:25 of the third period.
The Gladiators were able to overcome a late penalty in overtime to send the contest to a shootout but could only tally one goal in the shootout session in the 4-3 shootout loss.
Mississippi out shot the Gladiators 43-25 as Adam Berkhoel made 40 saves in the Gladiators third consecutive 4-3 shootout loss.
