Louisiana IceGators News Release
Beaumont,LAâ The Louisiana IceGators used two power play goals by Wes Mason and strong goaltending by Tyler Masters to win their first win of the season, 3-1 over the Texas Wildcatters. It was Todd Gordon's first win as head coach of the IceGators and the 2nd year in row Louisiana has ruined the Wildcatters' Texas debut.
The IceGators jumped out to an early 2-0 lead in Beaumont despite the emotional lift of this game being the Wildcatter's home opener. The Gators lit the lamp behind Phil Osaer twice in a span of 41 seconds to get an early cushion. Wes Mason scoring a power play goal at 4:51, taking a centering pass from Mike Omicioli and snapping it past the far post for his first tally of the season. Just 41 seconds later , Brian Perez put home his first goal as a Gator. Left alone in front of Osaer. Perez benefited from the hard work of John Evangelista and Shawn Skiehar, taking pass from behind the net and one-timing it home for the 2-0 lead.
In the 2nd period, Louisiana added to the lead with another power play goal by Mason. With Mason planted in front of the net, Jake Ortmeyer let a low wrist shot fly and Mason was able to deflect the biscuit over Osaer's shoulder for a 3-0 advantage.
Ryan Fultz ruined Tyler Masters bid for a shut out with his third goal of the season at the 9 minute mark of the 3rd period. From there it was all Tyler Masters, as the 2nd year netminder records his first win as an IceGator stopping 35 of 36 shots en route to the 3-1 victory. Louisiana evens it's record at 1-1 while Texas falls to 1-2 on the young season. The IceGators finish he night 2-5 on the power play while stopping all four shorthanded situations. Final shots on goal were 36-30 in favor of the Wildcatters.
The home opener for the Louisiana IceGators 10th anniversary season is next Saturday night, November 6, 2004, when the Gators host the Pensacola Ice Pilots. Tickets for this night and all IceGators home games are available now. For more information call the IceGators office at (337) 234-4423.
