Mississippi Sea Wolves News Release

ESTERO, Fla. – Florida's Damian Surma registered three goals plus an assist to lead the Everblades past the Mississippi Sea Wolves 6-3 in front of 5,959 at Germain Arena.

"We made mistakes and Surma made us pay," Mississippi coach Bob Woods said. "I don't think the score was indicative of the outcome. It was a frustrating night, but we have to regroup and be ready to take on Gwinnett at home."

Florida (3-1-0) opened the score at the 1:26 mark. Everblades veteran Brad Church beat Jason Wolfe with a right circle shot assisted by Ryan Brindley.

There was an epic fight in the opening stanza between the Sea Wolves' Lee Jacobson and Everblades' Brandon Coalter. The battle, which ended up in a draw, lasted for at least two minutes.

Mississippi (1-2-0) got back on even terms at 11:15. Nicolas Corbeil stole the puck at the Florida blueline and fed Jeff Hutchins, who sailed a shot from the slot past Craig Kowalski for his first of the year.

Sea Wolves took their first lead of the game just 20 seconds into the middle stanza with Louis Dumont netting his second goal of the year, assisted by Anthony Battaglia.

However, Florida knotted the score 17 seconds later with a delayed penalty coming up to Mississippi. Damian Surma scored his ECHL-leading 4th of the season, with the helpers going to Matt Pagnutti and Ernie Hartlieb.

Surma went back to work and scored his second goal of the period, league-leading 5th of the campaign, on the power-play at 17:04. Surma took a centering pass from Church and lifted it over the left glove of Wolfe to make it 3-2 for Florida. Reggie Berg also had a helper.

In the third, Surma netted his third goal of the game by going backhand on a shot from the slot 3:07. Berg and Pagnutti garnered assists to give Florida a 4-2 advantage. At 5:58, Brian Sullivan let go with a shot at the right point through traffic beating Wolfe. Helpers went to David Lundbohm and Pagnutti, who registered his third of the game.

That fifth Florida goal signaled a change of goaltenders for Mississippi, as Randy Hevey took over for Wolfe.

Mississippi cut the margin to two at 11:53. Dumont sent a lead pass ahead for Corbeil, who went in on a breakaway and slid a backhander through Kowalski, who would go on to secure his first pro victory with 29 saves.

But less than two minutes later, Berg gave the Everblades a 6-3 lead, netting a power-play marker. Tom Reimann and Surma assisted.

Mississippi converted on 1-of-4 power play opportunities, while Florida went 2-for-5. Everblades outshot the Sea Wolves 42-32.
