Erie SeaWolves News Release
Three double plays and some timely hitting pushed Erie past Bowie on Friday night, 7-4.
Erie scored first in the third inning when Diego Rincones led off with a solo home run. It was the 3,000th home run hit in Erie's franchise history. The SeaWolves scored again later in the frame when Colt Keith drove in a run on a fielder's choice.
Bowie cut into the Erie lead in the fourth inning when Heston Kjerstad blasted a solo home run off Erie starter Sawyer Gipson-Long. Kjerstad has homered in consecutive games for Bowie.
Erie plated two more in the fifth on run-scoring singles by Keith and Rodriguez, spelling the end of the day for Bowie starter and reigning Pitcher of the Week Cade Povich. Povich (2-2) was the losing pitcher.
Gipson-Long (3-3) allowed just that one run over five frames in a winning effort. He gave up five hits and walked one while striking out a pair. Erie turned three double plays behind him.
Bowie got it back to a one-run game on Billy Cook's two-run single off Bryce Tassin in the sixth inning. But, Erie beat up on MLB rehabber Dillon Tate in the seventh. They charged him with three runs in a third of an inning. Wenceel Perez, Trei Cruz, and Ben Malgeri had RBIs in the frame. Perez's RBI came on his third hit of the game.
Angel De Jesus picked up his first save of the season, retiring all five batters to face him and striking out the final four.
Wilmer Flores gets the ball for Erie tomorrow opposed by Peter Van Loon at 6:35 p.m.
