Binghamton Rumble Ponies News Release
BRIDGEWATER, NJ - Mike Vasil allowed just one hit over a season-high six scoreless innings, but the Binghamton Rumble Ponies (11-12) fell to the Somerset Patriots 2-0 on Friday night at TD Bank Ballpark.
Austin Wells two-out, two-run homer in the eighth proved to be the difference. It is Wells first home run of the season in his third game with the Patriots this year.
Binghamton would bring the tying run to the plate in the ninth after Jose Peroza singled with one out against Tanner Myatt. Myatt though would strikeout the next two hitters swinging to earn his third save of the year.
Vasil did not allow a hit through four and a third innings, with the only base knock an Eric Wagaman single in the fifth. Vasil allowed just two other baserunners via walks and struck out seven in the no-decision.
Somerset (15-9) starter Clayton Beeter allowed three hits over six scoreless frames with one walk and a career-high 11 strikeouts. The Ponies best opportunity against Beeter came in the third as Tanner Murphy and Rowdey Jordan both singled to begin the frame. After Wyatt Young sacrificed them over with a bunt, Binghamton had runners on second and third with one out. Beeter would retire the next two batters via a groundout and strikeout without allowing a run to score.
Somerset has taken three of the first four games in the series. The Rumble Ponies continue the Double-A Subway Series with the Patriots on Saturday night with first pitch at 6:35 PM and the NYCM Insurance Pregame Show starting at 6:20 PM.
Postgame Notes: This is the third straight start Vasil has struck out seven batters...Jordan finished 2-3 and extended his hitting streak to five games.
