Georgia Force News Release

FLOWERY BRANCH, GA, October 14, 2004 – The Georgia Force added two players to their roster today through the Arena Football League’s Dispersal Draft. The Force selected wide receiver/linebacker CARL MORRIS from the Detroit Fury with the 5th overall pick in the first round and then selected wide receiver/linebacker NATHAN POOLE from the Indiana Firebirds with the 22nd pick in the second round. Both Morris and Poole are currently playing for NFL teams, so they will be placed on the Force’s Other League Exempt roster.

The Dispersal Draft consisted of the 29 players remaining on the Carolina Cobras, Detroit Fury and Indiana Firebirds rosters. The draft was conducted via telephone conference call and consisted of a maximum of two rounds or until all teams in a round passed. A maximum of five minutes per selection was allowed in each round. If the time limit expired the pick was forfeited. Trades between teams were allowed to occur at any time prior to or during the draft.

MORRIS (6-3, 218, Harvard) is a present member of the New Orleans Saints practice squad. His NFL experience includes time with the Miami Dolphins, Philadelphia Eagles and Indianapolis Colts. This past spring, Morris was allocated to Cologne in NFL Europe and was second on the team and eighth in the league in receptions. He led the Centurions in touchdowns and was fifth in the league in receiving yards. Morris finished his collegiate career as HarvardÂ’s all-time leading receiver with 245 receptions for 3,488 yards and 28 touchdowns. He was both a first-team All-Ivy League selection and the Ivy League Offensive Player of the Year in each of his final two years.

POOLE (6-2, 205, Marshall) is currently in his third season with the Arizona Cardinals. For his NFL career, he has recorded 31 receptions for 355 yards and 2 touchdowns. Poole is probably best known for his dramatic catch on the final play on the Cardinals season last year. Trailing 17-12 and facing a fourth down and 25 from the Minnesota Vikings 28 yard line, Poole made an acrobatic catch in the end zone from quarterback Josh McCown for the game winning score as time expired. The VikingsÂ’ defeat kept them from making the playoffs and gave Green Bay a first round playoff game at home.

The Georgia Force begin a new chapter in their team history when they kick off their fourth season in the Arena Football League in late January 2005. This past August, the AFLÂ’s board of directors voted to approve Arthur M. Blank, owner & CEO of the Atlanta Falcons, as the new owner of the Georgia Force. Along with the ownership change, the Force announced they will be led on the field by new head coach Doug Plank and will be returning to downtown Atlanta to play their home games at Philips Arena.
