Chicago Rush News Release

The Chicago Rush selected linemen Charlie Cook and Demetrious Maxie from the Indiana Firebirds roster with the seventh and 31st picks, respectively, in today's AFL dispersal draft. The Rush acquired the seventh pick from Nashville as part of last month's trade in which Chicago sent six-time All-Arena lineman James Baron to the Kats.

The draft was held this afternoon via conference call to disperse the players remaining under contract with the Carolina Cobras, Detroit Fury and Indiana Firebirds

Cook (6-0, 290, C.W. Post) played in nine games as a rookie in 2004, recording 13 tackles. Previous to joining the Firebirds, Cook spent the previous two seasons playing in the af2. In 2003, he played with the Mohegan Wolves, recording 22 tackles, 11.5 sacks, three forced fumbles and one fumble recovery. In 2002 Cook played in eight games for the New Haven Ninja's recording 14.5 tackles and two sacks.

As a college senior, Cook set NCAA Division II records for most sacks in a season (20.5) and most tackles for loss in a season (37), and was named the Don Hansen Football Gazette 2001 Division II Defensive Lineman of the Year.

Maxie (6-2, 280, UTEP) spent last season on Indiana's exempt list after being signed by the San Francisco 49ers. Maxie last played in the AFL during the 2003 season, playing in five games and recording three tackles before leaving the Firebirds to play in the CFL.
