Colorado Crush News Release
DENVER - The Colorado Crush have signed 2004 arenafootball2 Ironman of the Year, Tim Dodge, the team announced today. Per team policy, terms of the deal were not released.
The 26-year-old Dodge (5-10, 190, Iowa), a wide receiver/defensive back, spent the last two seasons with the Quad City (IA) Steamwheelers of the af2, garnering First-Team All-af2 honors both years and earning the Ironman of the Year following the 2004 season.
Dodge, who has earned the moniker "60-Minute Man" due to his propensity to play almost every snap of every game, finished second in the af2 in receiving yards (1,596) and fifth in receptions (108), scoring 24 touchdowns. Dodge topped 100 receiving yards in nine games and scored two touchdowns in nine of his first 10 games this past season. Defensively, he recorded the second-most tackles on the team (48.5), adding five interceptions and 10 pass break-ups.
"We're really excited about signing Tim," said Crush head coach Mike Dailey. "He was the af2 Ironman of the Year and he won the Ironman of the Game award eight different times during the season. He's an experienced guy, he's got a lot of speed, and we're excited about having him in the program."
A native of Britt, Iowa, Dodge has long-been a two-way player, playing both wide receiver and cornerback as well as returning kicks for the University of Iowa. Dodge was also an All-American track star during his days with the Hawkeyes.
Teams have been contacting and negotiating with free agents since September 1, but were prohibited from officially signing players until October 1. Following the Dodge signing, the Crush roster now stands at 29 players currently under contract for the 2005 season, with a maximum of 37 players that can be invited to training camp. Camp will commence the first week of January.
The Colorado Crush kick off their third season in January and deposits for season tickets are currently being accepted. The Crush sales staff is available for renewals and new ticket deposits from 8 a.m. - 5 p.m. Monday thru Friday at (303)-352-1000.
