AFL I Arena Football League (1987-2008)

Nashville make McPherson top choice

October 14, 2004 - Arena Football League (1987-2008) (AFL I) News Release

NEW YORK – The Nashville Kats selected quarterback ADRIAN MC PHERSON (6-3, 185, Florida State) with the top selection in the dispersal draft today. Twenty-nine players were selected from the available roster of former Carolina Cobras, Detroit Fury and Indiana Firebirds players. The Colorado Crush led all teams by selecting four players overall.

McPherson, who was selected 2004 AFL Rookie of the Year, completed 237-of-397 (59.7 percent) passes for 3,297 yards, 61 touchdowns and five interceptions last season. The former Seminole also rushed for 19 touchdowns – the most by any AFL quarterback in a single season.

Grand Rapids followed by selecting WR/DB ANTHONY HINES (5-11, 185 Winston Salem State) and Colorado added former All-Rookie selection WR/LB ANDY MC CULLOUGH (6-4, 220, Tennessee) with the third pick.

With the eighth selection, the New York Dragons chose seven-year veteran OS and former Offensive Player of the Year MIKE HORACEK (6-2, 200, Iowa State) from Indiana. The former Cyclone will be reunited with former teammates QB AARON GARCIA and OS KEVIN SWAYNE. The trio teamed up as members of the Iowa Barnstormers during the 1998 and 1999 seasons. With Garcia's passing in 2000, Horacek logged an AFL-record 46 touchdown receptions.
