Force Cease Operations
August 5, 2009 - Arena Football League (1987-2008) (AFL I)
Georgia Force News Release
On August 4, 2009, the Arena Football League announced it was suspending operations, effective immediately. As a result, the Georgia Force will cease operations.
Commenting on the announcement, Georgia Force President Dick Sullivan said, "We are disappointed at this outcome for AFL fans, but there was no other viable choice. Despite significant efforts on the part of many AFL and team representatives, the League was unable to create a new business model that we and others could support. Those of us who worked at the Georgia Force will miss the fun action of this unique football game."
The Georgia Force played its first games in Atlanta in the 2002 season. In its last season (2008), the team finished with a 10-6 record, put together the club's first back-to-back winning seasons, and won its third Southern Division Championship in a four-year period.
