Greensboro Generals News Release
GREENSBORO, NC-- For the fourth time in seven games, and the second consecutive game, the Greensboro Generals won or tied a game in the last two minutes of the game. The most recent victim of circumstance were the Roanoke Express, falling 4-2 to the Generals (39-21-9) at the Greensboro Coliseum in front of 3,011 on hand. The victory leaves Greensboro one point shy of a playoff spot, with three games remaining on the schedule.
Roanoke (39-24-6) scored to take a 1-0 advantage when Joe Dusbabek scored at the 17:15 mark providing the only goal for the first period of the game. Greensboro captain Jay Murphy knotted the game at 1-1 when in front of the goal, he deflected a pass from Geno Parrish at the 19:54 mark.
The third period proved to be the momentum shift, when Roanoke's Joe Dusbabek converted his second goal of the night, putting the Express up 2-1 at the 1:12 mark. The game was tied when Mike Oliveira scored the tying goal on a bouncing puck off the stick of Matt Turek from the crease. Greensboro's two-minute magic continued when the Generals Rod Aldoff sent home the game-winner at the 18:38 mark scoring from the left circle, forging the Generals ahead 3-2. Jay Murphy put the finishing touches on the game, converting an empty net goal to give the Generals an insurance goal with a 4-2 advantage.
The Generals continue their homestand on Friday when facing the Charlotte Checkers at the Greensboro Coliseum with a 7:30 start time. The game will decide which of the two teams will maintain possession of the Carolina Cup, an award shared between the two franchises based off head-to-head victories during the season. The first 1,000 kids will receive a Hanes Tagless bag, and first 1,000 fans will receive a team photo for the autograph session following the game. Fans can check all the Generals action on WPET 950AM and www.greensborogenerals.com.
