
ECHL Announces All-Rookie Team

PRINCETON, N.J. â The East Coast Hockey League on Wednesday announced its All-Rookie Team for 2002-03.

The All-Rookie Team was determined in a vote of ECHL coaches, who were each asked to select a goaltender, two defensemen and three forwards.
Jackson's Adam Hauser is tied for the ECHL lead with five shutouts and ranks third with a 2.46 goals against average. Selected in the third round (81st overall) by Edmonton in the 1999 National Hockey League Entry Draft, the 22-year-old Hauser is 20-9-4 with a .916 save percentage in 34 games with Jackson. In his first professional season after four years at the University of Minnesota, the 6-2 and 194-pound Hauser has twice been named ECHL Goalie of the Week. Currently with Binghamton of the American Hockey League, he was also named to the Southern Conference roster for the 2003 Compuware/ECHL All-Star Game.
Richmond's Jonathan Zion is tied for sixth among ECHL defensemen and tied for 13th among ECHL rookies with 49 points (13g-36a) in 56 games. Selected by the Toronto Maple Leafs in the fourth round (110th overall) in the 1999 NHL Entry Draft, Zion leads Richmond defensemen with seven power-play goals, two game-winning goals, 13 goals, 36 assists and 49 points. The 21-year-old scored a power-play goal in the 2003 Compuware/ECHL All-Star Game helping the Northern Conference to an 8-2 win. The 6-0 and 180-pound Zion has also played with Cincinnati of the AHL scoring three points (2g-1a) in 12 games.
Toledo's Grady Moore is 10th among ECHL defensemen and tied for 17th among ECHL rookies with 45 points (7g-38a). The 24-year-old leads Toledo with 38 assists and ranks third on the team in scoring. The 5-11 and 180-pound Moore has also played five games with Cleveland of the AHL.
Roanoke's Jason Jaffray leads ECHL rookies with 50 assists and 83 points in 60 games while ranking second with 33 goals and tied for third with 10 power-play goals. The 21-year-old Jaffray, who ranks seventh overall in the ECHL in scoring, became the first player ever to win the CCM ECHL Rookie of the Month twice, earning the honor in November and December after being the runner-up in October. Under contract to Norfolk of the AHL, Jaffray was named as a starter and had an assist in the Northern Conference's 8-2 win in the 2003 Compuware/ECHL All-Star Game.
Pee Dee's Mike Glumac leads ECHL rookies in goals with 36 and in plus/minus with +37. The 22-year-old Glumac, who ranks second among all ECHL players in plus/minus, is tied for second among rookies with six game-winning goals and ranks third in rookie scoring with 68 points. In his first professional season after four years at Miami University (Ohio), Glumac, who was named to the Southern Conference roster for the 2003 Compuware/ECHL All-Star Game, was the C&T Hockey Products East Coast Hockey League Plus Performer of the Month for November.
Wheeling's Zenon Konopka ranks third among ECHL rookies with 42 assists and is sixth in scoring with 63 points in 65 games. The 22-year-old leads Wheeling in assists, scoring and plus/minus (+5), and is tied for the team lead with four game-winning goals and 21 goals. Under contract to Wilkes-Barre/Scranton of the AHL, Konopka, who had an assist while helping the Northern Conference to an 8-2 win in the 2003 Compuware/ECHL All-Star Game, has also scored one point (0g-1a) in four games with Wilkes-Barre/Scranton.
The ECHL will announce the 2002-03 All-ECHL First Team and Second Team on Thursday, March 27.
