Generals Endure Lookouts, 7-5

CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. - The Lookouts fell behind early in Wednesday afternoon's game but were able to tie up the game in the sixth inning, only to ultimately lose to the Jackson Generals, 7-5, at AT&T Field.

The Generals came swinging right out of the gate. In the first inning, Vincent Catricala hit an RBI single, while Rich Poythress nailed an RBI double to put Jackson up, 2-0.

Jackson augmented their lead in the fourth with two more runs. Carlos Triunfel led off with a homer, and Catricala picked up his second RBI single of the game to put the score at 4-0.

A Brian Cavazos-Galvez RBI single in the bottom portion of the fourth gave the Lookouts their first run of the game.

Both teams exchanged runs in the fifth frame, with Alfredo Silverio accounting for the Lookouts' run with an RBI single. Despite facing a 5-1 deficit, the Lookouts gave the Generals a run for their money.

In the bottom of the sixth inning, Scott Van Slyke began the rally by legging out a one-out triple. Kyle Russell followed with a hit by pitch to put runners at the corners. A botched fielder's choice in which second baseman Scott Savastano did not touch second base resulted in Russell scoring and runners on first and second. A subsequent fielding error by third baseman Catricala loaded the bases and set up a two-RBI double to deep center by Griff Erickson. A miscommunication, however, resulted in Erickson being tagged out near third base with Denker already stationed on the base. Jaime Pedroza ended the rally by striking out. After the dust settled, the Lookouts found themselves tied, 5-5.

The game remained tied until the top of the eighth, when Savastano hit a sacrifice fly off of Steven Ames (0-2) to right field to score Triunfel.

The Generals added an insurance run in the ninth on a Johermyn Chavez RBI single to put the score at its final resting place, 7-5.

Steve Delabar shut the door on the Lookouts during the final two frames to earn his 11th save of the season for the Generals.

Moises Hernandez (3-0), who pitched the seventh inning in relief for Jackson, was credited with the win.
