MONTGOMERY, AL - Kyeong Kang homered for the third consecutive game, and Chris Archer hurled seven shutout innings to beat his former team in a 4-0 decision over the Tennessee Smokies (14-16) Wednesday at Riverwalk.
It's the second time this month that Archer (5-6) has thrown seven scoreless against Tennessee, having done the same on July 7th. He struck out only two, giving up four hits and walking four, but the Smokies went 0-8 with men in scoring position and stranded 13 on the night.
Kang scored the game's first run on a sac fly from Velasquez in the second, then crushed a homer to right to make it 2-0 in the fourth. The Biscuits (16-14) would add one more in the fourth on a David Wendt double and finish the scoring with a Shawn O'Malley RBI-single in the sixth.
The Biscuits handed Tennessee starter Marco Carillo (4-1) his first loss of the year, chasing him after four innings. Neil Schenk pitched 1.1 scoreless before Zach Quate (17) came on to score the save.
John Shelby had three hits to lead the Biscuits, with O'Malley and Greg Sexton each chipping in two.
The Biscuits will try to take a series advantage Thursday at 7:05 when Shane Dyer squares off against RHP Trey McNutt.
